Itineraries for the Abruzzo region: between sea, culture and good cuisine...

The Abruzzo region is called the "Green Region of Europe". Indeed more than a third of its surface is protected. The bears and chamois, the cliffs and forests and the rolling hills and magnificent sandy beaches make this place the ideal destination for your next seaside holiday. Between the high peaks of Gran Sasso, Majella and Velino and the golden coastline, the nature of Abruzzo forms a charming and varied picture that can be enjoyed all year round.

Thanks to the National Parks, a dense network of reserves and natural oases, the nature of Abruzzo is now adequately protected. Individual enthusiasts or groups can easily visit it.

All this is possible without sacrificing the services offered by a modern tourist resort; it is perfectly equipped with new accommodation facilities, such as Hotels, Rooms, Residences, apartments, camping grounds, sports facilities, public phones, a first aid center, chemist’s and banks. Kilometers and kilometers of beaches, rocks and fine sand for an exciting, relaxing and regenerating holiday.

The coastline of Abruzzo is one of the most important and popular tourist attractions of the region for the tranquility of the beaches, landscapes, clear waters, sweet pine forests and clean air.

At nightfall, this stretch of the sea changes rhythm: the "Adriatic nights" can be felt and the pubs come to life until the first lights of dawn for all the young to enjoy (of all ages). Those who are looking for a sports holiday can enjoy sailing, windsurfing, canoeing and fishing.

Art and Architecture
Romanesque churches and castles, ancient necropolises and museums, monasteries and fortified villages. There is a wide range of works of arts and monuments that is just waiting to be discovered by the visitors who pass through the Abruzzo region; between the mountains and the sea.

There are dozens of lesser-known wonders, scattered in every corner of the region, that are very exciting for travelers to see in addition to the monuments and famous artifacts, such as S. Maria di Collemaggio, the ancient roads of Scanno, the National Archeological Museum of Chieti and Rocca Calascio. Abruzzo is the birthplace of poets, philosophers, such as Silone and Croce, painters, such as Michetti, Palizzi and Cascella, the poet D'Annunzio and many other artists.

The strong ties to traditions can be felt during the colorful festivals and events that animate the entire Abruzzo region over the summer season; for all to see and enjoy. There is a dense network of important dates with numerous events and folkloric representations, but also colorful scenes of daily life and entertainment to entice the eyes of all tourists.

During the summer, the theater, music, humorous festivals and historical representations are held in the squares, parks, castles and beaches of the bigger and smaller cities.

Crafts, Typical Products and Cuisine
In Abruzzo, craftsmanship has deep roots. There are centuries and centuries of secrets, but also bigger and smaller intuitions that are fed by necessity and passion; a passion transferred from father to son.

Wrought iron and copper, precious metals with elaborate filigree handwork, ceramics and textiles, leathers and skins fill the shop displays where the atmosphere of ancient times blend in with the enthusiasm of a younger generation that is well aware of the art of these trades. The products from the land and sea are simple and genuine. They are the real protagonists of the cuisine of this region, with extra virgin olive oil and wine. A mouthwatering series of flavors, famous pastas, saffron, cheeses, salamis, dairy products, delicious meats and unique traditional sweets can be purchased in the shops of the village.

Other interesting places to visit and that can easily be reached are Teramo (provincial city) - first among all - because it is full of historical monuments and churches. Then, there is the Abbey of Propezzano, which is in Morro d'Oro, Castelli, famous for its ceramics, Civitella del Tronto, which hosts the ancient fortress, Campli, renowned for its Holy Staircase, Pescara and its famous museum of the people from Abruzzo and the house of D'Annunzio and Atri and its important cathedral.
